Free Mental Health First Aid Training

Due to popularity, dates have been changed and added...
Kansas City Rescue Mission staff are offering a free session of Mental Health First Aid Training on several dates at St. Monica's Catholic Church, Ferguson Hall in KCMO. Mental Health First Aid is a groundbreaking public education program that helps the public identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders.
Usually organizations offer this course for a fee, however, this 2-day certification course session is being offered FREE to the Kansas City Metro community. Training will be offered in two parts for each session. Participants MUST attend both sessions.
Friday & Saturday, March 1 & 2, 7:45am-4pm each day
2 Saturdays, April 20 & 27, 7:45am-4pm each day
Unconfirmed but possible: Friday & Saturday, March 15 & 16, 7:45am-4pm each day

The Disaster Distress Helpline will be hosting an introductory webinar for AIRS members. The Helpline is the nation's first toll-free hotline service dedicated to providing disaster crisis counseling 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Description: Joe Samalin, Outreach and Training Manager of the Disaster Distress Helpline, will give an introduction and overview of SAMHSA's Disaster Distress Helpline and discussion on how the Helpline can best work with and support AIRS members before, during and after disasters.

February Board Meeting
Today the MAK-AIRS board had their first meeting of 2013, and welcomed new board member Marilyn Gunter from Care Connection for Aging Services in Warrensburg, MO!
We have begun plans for the 2013 MAK-AIRS Annual Conference and Membership Meeting. It will be in St. Louis, MO in September. Please contact us if you are interested in presenting or offering a workshop at our conference, or if you have any suggestions for topics.
New board officers were elected at the meeting, so please welcome our new president, Robin Pokojski of United Way of Greater St. Louis 2-1-1!
Yay Robin! We look forward to a great year of I&R in 2013!
